Victoria Falls-Zimbabwe: Signing of a cooperation agreement between CJCA and CJCPLP
With shared values and a desire to increase their exchanges, the Conference of African Constitutional Jurisdictions (CJCA) and the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CJCPLP) signed a cooperation agreement on 1 November 2024 in Victoria Falls, on the sidelines of the seventh congress of the CJCA.
Mr. Luke MALABA, Chief Justice of Zimbabwe and President of the CJCA and Mr. José Manuel DELGADO, President of the Constitutional Tribunal of Cape Verde and President of the CJCPLP, signed the text sealing this new partnership.
In addition to sharing legal studies relating to the control of constitutionality, and in particular those relating to human rights and the establishment of the rule of law, the joint organization of scientific events is planned. The CJCPLP and the CJCA also agreed to consult each other on regional and international debates related to constitutional justice.
The CJCPLP is an organization for judicial, jurisprudential and scientific cooperation aimed at promoting human rights, defending democracy and judicial independence. It includes the following countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor.
It should be recalled that the majority of the member Courts of the CJCPLP, Angola, Brazil (Observer), Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, and Sao Tome and Principe, are also members of the CJCA.
This approach with the CJCPLP offers the CJCA a new space for dialogue and cooperation in the field of justice and the promotion of the rule of law.
