Lesotho: Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Lesotho joins the CJCA
In a letter addressed to the General Secretariat of the CCJ dated 19 November 2024, the Honourable Chief Justice Mr Sakoane Sakoane, formally requested the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Lesotho to join the CJCA as a Member.
With the accession of the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the CCJ, the total number of members will increase to forty-nine (49) Active Members and four (04) Observer Members.
Lesotho is a constitutional monarchy with a bicameral parliament. The National Assembly has 120 members elected for five years, and the Senate has 33 members all appointed.
The Constitution of Lesotho was adopted in 1993. Executive power is vested in the Government. Legislative power is shared between the Government and the two houses of Parliament, the National Assembly and the Senate. The judiciary is independent.
